
On Thursday, October 8 we will celebrate Mary Washington Hospital’s 110 year anniversary. What started out as an 8-room cottage at the corner of Fauquier and Sophia Streets in 1899 has become a 437-bed regional medical center at the heart of a 70-acre medical campus. Today, just as it was when it was founded, the hospital is locally owned and operated, and cares for everyone regardless of their ability to pay. I am proud of this rich tradition of serving our community’s healthcare needs.

Dear MediCorp Associates, Physicians, and Volunteers:
I am extremely pleased and excited to announce that this morning Mary Washington Hospital (MWH) officially attained Magnet recognition status. During a telephone call that was broadcast throughout the MWH Atrium, officials with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) informed us that MWH is now among an elite group of hospitals, just 15 in our state, to be awarded the highest honor in nursing excellence.

As you may have seen, HCA recently sent out information about MediCorp’s request to expand its cancer care services by bringing radiation therapy and stereotactic radiosurgery services to Mary Washington Hospital. HCA’s claims are inaccurate. I write to reiterate the philosophy that guides us in our work, and to set the record straight.
The mission of MediCorp Health System is to improve the health status of all people within our community. MediCorp fulfills that mission in various ways: by providing inpatient and outpatient hospital and related services at Mary Washington Hospital, Stafford Hospital Center, and in the community, by partnering with others to provide health care services together, as with the Moss Free Clinic, and by supporting other service providers, such as Health South.
